Civil minds

I was yakking away with one of my friends over msn the other night, when the government is trying so hard to clam down on racism over the blog sphere, have they realise that they are missing out on one important sector? The public service sector is what I am talking about. Why am I bringing this out? It's all because my friends and I had some unhappy encounters with the public service.

One good example is where I stay - Chinatown. Friends often say they would be very happy if they stay in Chinatown like me. I on the other hand would love to move out, reason is simple. Small things like parking can cause a lot of headaches. Imagine having to wait for an hour for a parking space on reaching home. And then security issues, people might think Chinatown being a crowded place must be safe. WRONG! My car got scratched because the shock sensors weren't sensitive enough! Imagine less than 2 weeks after collected a new car, got up one day and discovered that it has been vandalized, made police reports but nothing has been done except to find more scratches on the car!

One particular telephone call to the Traffic Police department made me lose whatever confidence I had in them.

SDG = SundayGal
TP = Traffic Police Officer

SDG: I would like to make a complain about illegal parkings and non-season parking holders in season parking lots at XXX in Chinatown.

TP: Mdm I'm afraid there's nothing much we can do as you know it is nearing to Chinese new year, you see we cannot be too uptight over little things like this. It's just like Hari Raya period at Geylang Serai, people staying there too have problems similar to yours. If we are too strict then people (the general public) will hate us(Traffic Police), we just have to be more understanding during festive seasons.

I am getting way pissed off and upset over this as I have been calling them(TP) every week because of the inconvenience inconsiderate drivers have caused me at where I am staying! So if you are one of those who got fined during Chinese new year in Chinatown, don't blame me. Blame yourselves for being inconsiderate! And what shocked me most was this particular officer was worried being disliked by the general public?! Is he telling me that police officers or public servants are paid to be LIKED? Police officers are not supposed to do their jobs during festive season? We put our lives and safety in the hands of those feared that they are not going to be liked for doing his job?!

Be understand towards inconsiderate drivers?! Who is going to be understanding about my inconvenience? And mind you it's not just during the festive season that my area has parking problems, even during normal weekend I sometimes have to wait for 30-45 minutes before getting a lot to park my car!

SDG: so are you telling me festive season got thieves u r not going to catch? You mean you are paid to being liked?

TP: ...... Please do not get me wrong, I am just saying we should be more open minded during festive season mdm.

SDG: Well I gotto say, I am not the only one complaining about the situation now and also not only during festive seasons! I believe my neighbours too call you during normal weekends! If you are doing your job we would not have to call you. (My tone of voice is very harsh by now)

TP: Okay mdm will send someone down soon (issue summons/tickets).

Why can't these people take initiaive to do something about the traffic situation? Write more tickets? And people will be scared to park all over the place. Imagine a one lane road with parking lots on the left and yet inconsiderate people parking on the right side as well! It just does not make sense. Yes cars in Singapore are not that big will be able to squeese through , that is not the point it makes things difficult especially those that park around the bend it hinders visions and makes it dangerous for drivers and pedestrians! And last but not least, if you want to be an inconsiderate driver who parks all over the place, then dun blame residents for calling in the police or URA or HDB to issue you a (parking)ticket, because you asked for it for being inconsiderate!

I fully agree with Sundaygal, with two raising hands. Being as Chinatown girl or Chinatown resident, is no fun! Imagine, You paid for your season parking coupon every month and got no parking lots for you, just becos' some morons has taken that "season" lots that they are not being "entitle" @*#($&@*

Every weekend going home machiam, like from Woodland causeway to JB.. #@&*(#&@* inconsiderate drivers are parking illegally at the two side of the road (double yellow lines somemore) caused the traffic to slow down. if the TP not going to do something this year CNY. I tell you is not worth to stay at Chinatown! cos everything is so EX! ERP, CBD, and that ta ma de monthly dumb Season Parking with no parking lots for us!!!!!!!!

They should have people scheduled there everyday to give out summons. Mine never fails to come so dun even think of parking at the red lots. Heehee.

The church goers next door was occupying the whole car park despite those basement parking and some even parked by the road side (whole stretch of it).

I did not know that such fateful church goers rather break the laws than their religious rules. But after how they tried to ring my door bells so many times to share with me their activities at church and countless flyers I have received on my gate. I will rather they educate their followers to think about others before anyone can even consider why they should join their church.

Someone complaint and now u see zero cars near our lovely painted 365 days solely for season parkers lot.

Erm... btw, is Faithful not "Fate"ful. Nevertheless Christian are still human there is nothing to do with their faith and devotion toward God. if you want mock them in that way, I have no comments. BTW, were those cars printed "I am a Christian from next door" and FYI Christians so what? yet we are sinner ok? we are not perfect! This illegal parking thingy has nothing to do with religion. I can see alot of uncles and aunties visiting Chinatown's wet-market and with bo chap attitude parking illegally. When we started to honk them, they still show us the "international hand-sign"...

Ooo Im sorry but I did not find my post that funny, especially when its a factual example that has almost caused countless accidents by their inconsiderate act.

By the way I have nothing against any religion but just so happen that its a church next door.

O btw, the people who walked to their cars were the people who walked out of the church. Thank u for questioning. =)

So regardless of religion or race, its just a matter of character. Just that my example was an unfortunate encounter with the church next door. Can't blame me for havng a bad impression of them (those who have come knocking on my door as well) althought it is nice of them to share their belief with me.

Unfortunately I will let them know that it will be kind of them to advise their church goers to pack else where for the safety of everybody.
Many times, it has not improved the situation and even though we were told that they have informed their followers. It leaves us with no choice but to call in the authorities.

Just another reminder that it was a factual incident and by all means I was just referring to the church next door and not every single church in Singapore.

But it is unfortunate that u should think that such a dangerous situation is considered a mockery.
