Man on Death Row

A Melbourne man is due to be hanged in Singapore for drug trafficking. The decision for capital punishment sparked controversy among many, mostly Australian whom some think that Singaporean law is barbaric and backwards.

Death itself is not the punishment Nguyen Tuong Van, 25 is receiving. In my opinion, the anticipation of death is his biggest punishment. No doubt it saddens me at the thought that not only the person who made the mistake is being punished, his family is being punished as well with his death.

While I am feeling sad that someone is going to pay for a mistake he made with his life, there is no doubt that it was not unfair in Singapore's part to punish him by execution. It is the country's law and it will not be fair to be bending the rules. We are talking about a man who trys to bring in half a kilo of heroine that eventually be shot up in the bodies of people in our streets, of some whom may be our kids. What is worst? Death of one man who tried to put drugs on the street killing many or just his death?

Hope that Nguyen's death will serve as a warning to those who think about putting crack on the streets, and may he rest in peace.

To be more accurate, its 26,000 drug supplies. Actually there are other strict laws in Asian countries. I saw one in the newspaper where they do public shooting execution.
