This matter has indeed blown out of proportion. It seems like every singaporean blogger is writing or rather blogging something on this issue. Not only this, to my knowledge of reading the singaporean news online, I also found out that the NKF building has been vandalised. This has indeed instigated a nation wide rage in Singapore.
It's not difficult to understand the nation wide rage, imagine a blue collar worker who earns $1,000 each month, and he is willing to part with $50 every month as donation to NKF, thinking that he will be able to help a fellow Singaporean who is stricken with kidney failure, which requires expensive dialysis treatment. And in the end only to find out that his money has been abused going to the pay of the CEO of NKF who draws $25, 000 every month, flies on first class when he goes on business trips, gold plated taps and a $1,000 toiletbowl in his office ensuite. Just put ourselves in his shoe and think how we'd feel...
To add fuel to fire, wife the ex prime minister of Singapore commented that the 25 thousand dollar per month, plus 12 months bonus which sums up to 600thousand dollars a year, which equates to 1.8million dollars in a period of 3 years, is nothing but peanuts! How ridiculous can these leaders get? Some people struggle all their lives and might not earn even 1million dollars in their entire lifetime! It just showed how charitable these people are. So are these rich people just sitting on the board of any charity organisations for the sake of it, showing others how charitable they really are?
While the poor blue collar worker is working his butts off to earn that mere wage of a thousand dollars every month, the CEO of the charity organisation which, he contributes 50 dollars of his hard earned money to, is actually using an amount which equates to one month of the blue collar worker's pay to buy a designer toilet bowl to be fitted in the office suite, so that he (the CEO of NKF) can feel superior shitting in such an expensive toiletbowl.
My question is, how sure are we that the money we have donated to whichever charity oganisation is not being abused like in the case of NKF? Will this NKF incident put people off donating to charities? The big question... How charitable are the board of directors of the charity organisations?
